Winthrop Square, Boston

After studying both Joseph Zbukvic and Alvaro Castagnet watercolors and watching their DVDs, I'm  trying to break away from my old habits. This painting, "Red Pants" of Winthrop Square in Boston, MA plus the previous entry, Post Office Square "Spring Steps" is the beginning of a new journey for me.

Prudence Solitude

Late afternoon on Prudence Island. Those long afternoon shadows never cease to amaze me.

Anxious Arrivers

The 3:30 p.m. Prudence Island ferry arrives from Bristol. I caught this scene during a recent trip to the island while completing a commissioned work.

Safe Harbor

Every year I donate a watercolor to my scuba club, the OCA Amphibians. The prizes are raffled off during our annual banquet with the proceeds going towards our New Year's Day "Treasure Hunt" Dive. These Chatham, MA fishing boats, sitting in extremely still water, caught my eye.

"Ted"

My father-in-law, Ted, was out back reading the Globe at his beach house during a warm fall afternoon when I captured this image. It almost became a study in greens given his sweatshirt, chair, table and surrounding landscape.

One Way

Inspired during a hot summer day, I was amused with all the cyclists riding the wrong way down this one way street in Provincetown.

Commercial Street

Those vivid clear summer days inspired me to capture this scene on Commercial Street in P-Town.

Fin Fun

Inspired at the marina where we dock our boat, Fin Fun is a half-sheet sized watercolor. I tried to capture a passing storm to the west while the sun was still shining towards the south.

Let's Go Diving

This is a small work I donated to my scuba club for a dive-related raffle. It's a popular spot for divers and frequented quite often by my dive colleagues.

Winter Squall (oils)

I'm trying oils for the first time since 10th grade. It's fun but very different thinking process compared to watercolors.

Frostbitten

This was an amazing race just after some nasty clouds had passed. It was very windy and chilly!
This painting won "Best in Show" at the Bristol Art Museum, Sailing on the Bay show, Spring 2012.
